Have You Taken Your Vacation This Year? Part 2
May 27, 2008
In my previous blog “Have Your Taken Your Vacation This Year?” reader Marlo responded with her personal problems in the workplace. Marlo states “my workplace feels if you take vacation time then you must actually go some place. Then if they find out you are not going anywhere they try to take your vacation time away from you…saying another person needs to actually go somewhere so you must give up your time for this person”. According to Marlo, the ability of her workplace to take away vacation time and give it to another is discrimination. The heavy response was unanticipated. As expected, many individuals still regard tattoos and piercings as unsuitable for the workplace. Reader Sally Davisson comments about tattoos, “I do associate it with a lack of forward thinking and self-respect. I think a lot of it is done for attention, but realistically anyone who defaces themselves permanently has to understand it won’t all be positive.” Davisson further states, “In any job that involves the public, I firmly believe the employer retains the right to decide the image that will be appropriate for the organization. If you are not a fit in their mind, you have narrowed your employment options.”
