Happy Halloween…could the rain be gone by late afternoon?

Hey folks…Happy Halloween to everyone as we roll into the weekend… it appears our weather will be quite an adventure into the early part of the holiday on Saturday. I have to say it was incredibly delightful soaking up the summer like weather on Friday as a strong south wind (gusts over 30 miles per hour) drove afternoon highs all the way into the upper 70s with a few low 80s sprinkled in here and there. You know the score this time of the year when we have major weather systems coming through…it can be simply divine and then hours later we are completely in the sauce! Ironically the 2nd to last day of October brought our warmest day for the month…and the warmest day we’ve seen across the commonwealth since late September. Naturally that will be a thing of the past into Halloween, but I hope everyone does enjoy the fun and is safe while you are out and about.

Looking at the overall picture for Saturday, I’m much more optimistic about the rain chances diminishing as we get toward the critical times for trick or treating …and the Cats Homecoming game out at Commonwealth Stadium. The majority of the heavier rain should be late Friday night and into early Saturday morning, eventually tapering to a few showers as the afternoon progresses. It looks like that secondary wave along the front may stay off to our south and east as the front moves away from us, so this would prevent the enhancement of some additional showers into the evening hours. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that it plays out that way since no one wants to sit through a football game, or walk the streets with little kids in the pouring rain! keep in mind it will be a bit breezy and getting cooler as we hit the evening hours so be prepared for that, but at least we may dodge the proverbial bullet this year!

Once we clear this system out late Saturday…we should string together a few nice days into Sunday and Monday…with highs into the mid and upper 50s with some sunshine. The model data for next week is all over the place with the potential for some chilly air heading our way through the mid week. The Euro is more aggressive with the trough digging into the Ohio Valley on Wednesday while the GFS is flatter and farther north. Given how the Euro was all over the Saturday morning arrival of our current system a full week ago…I’m throwing my eggs in that basket right now…even if it might be dismissed. We still have a few days to go…so we’ll see. If it verifies, we are talking highs in the mid 40s with a few chilly showers late Wednesday and into Thursday so it would definitely feel like early November then. Look at the difference in the models for Wednesday evening, and notice how the Euro has the chilly air farther south!

Don’t forget about the time change this weekdnd as we Fall Back…set your clocks back one hour before heading off to bed on Saturday so we all get that extra hour of sleep. Yeah it is a drag when it gets dark at like 5pm for months, but heaven knows many of us could use the extra hour of shut-eye. I arrived home Thursday night to find our 4 year old in our bed (which NEVER happens anymore) and with the in-laws laying claim to her room…I was stuck getting about 6 hours of restless sleep while being kicked and punched all night….of course all this after a super long week when I need the rest. Oh well…that’s all part of being a parent!

Everyone have a safe and happy Halloween…and a good weekend as a whole. Go Cats and eat a Hershey bar for me!

That’s all for now!

Thanks for the Halloween update, TG. We went to bed late last night, and the temp was at 71 degrees. When I got up a little bit ago, it is now at 50, with the rain falling. Looking at my rain gauge, it looks like we have had almost an inch of rain overnight. I didn’t go out to it, as I am still in my pjs, and was not really in the mood to get wet just now!

I really hope that you are right about it moving on out of here by afternoon. Especially for the trick or treaters, and the football game. On that note, I have to say that I wish they had done a white out, since its Homecoming….as white is one of the school colors. Oh well…..either way, folks are going to have to bundle up for the game. Hopefully, the CATS will be playing a good enough game to keep the crowd on their feet, and into the game. THAT will help keep them warm!

Well, everyone have a great day. Happy Halloween. Keep it safe, and GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!
